Priyamani recalls that she was excited when Mani Ratnam called her to his office to narrate the storyline of Raavan and her role in it. When the director offered the role to her, all that he wanted to know was how good her Hindi was. When Priyamani replied it was quite good, the director called one of his assistants to converse with her in Hindi to test her linguistic skills. Satisfied with the accent, Mani offered the role, she gushes.
Interestingly, Priyamani also bagged another Bollywood offer soon after this. It is the Ram Gopal Varma’s Raktha Charithra.

Vaiyapuri made his debut in the film Ilaya Ragam some 15 years back. He has acted more than 200 films in various languages. He will be doing a lead role in a film. While speaking to the media, he said,” Many are asking me whether I am donning a role of a transgender.
It is true. I am donning this role in Raavan directed by Manirathnam. I am acting as the friend of Priyamani in this film. Acting as a transgender was a different experience. In the same way, I have donned the role of cowboy in the film Irumbu Kottai Murattu Singam wherein my sideburns and mustache meet.
I have learnt horse riding and gun shooting for this film. I am eager to do the hero role. A director came and told me a story. I agreed to do the lead role. But he threw a bomb by saying that there should be another hero to support me and he wanted me to get his call sheet.
I declined this offer. Now P Vasu’s assistant Devendran has told me a story which I liked. The announcement regarding me becoming hero will come shortly. I am also donning the second hero role in a Malayalam film Kalyanamam Kalyanam.
In Tamil, I am acting in 15 films including Kola Kolaya Mundhrika, Kanagavel Kaaka, Body Guard remake, Vellore Mavattam, Chikku Bukku and Bale Pandiya. In Ninavil Nindraval I am donning five kinds of getups.

Priyamani on Monday inaugurated the ‘Oscars 2010’ in Chennai, a film festival which is being organised by the US Consulate General, Chennai, Indo-Cine Appreciation Foundation and the Madras Film Society.

“It is a good platform to showcase the movies that were nominated for the Oscars this year,” the actress said while inaugurating the festival, where American films that were either nominated for or won the Oscars this year, will be screened.

The opening film that was screened on Monday was ‘A Serious Man,’ directed by Ethan Coen and Joel Coen. U.S Consul-General in Chennai Andrew T Simkin said screening of films that entered the Oscars had always evoked an overwhelming response from film-lovers.

“The Consulate has been popularising the films by selecting the best movies for such festivals. A similar festival organised earlier this year got a tremendous response,” the Consul-General said, expressing happiness.

t’s getting bigger for Priyamani as she’s going far-famed with more remarkable films now. Followed by her national award winning film ‘Paruthiveeran’, the actress had a big surprise as Manirathnam offered her to perform prominent role in his bilingual ‘Raavana’. Much before she could get away with this mania, the missy has a cerebral-stud call from Ram Gopal Varma now.


This is about his next multilingual film ‘Raktha Charitra’ made simultaneously in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil. As known earlier, the film marks the Bollywood debut for Suriya and in Telugu film industry as well (it’s the first direct film in Telugu though there have been more dubbed films). Now, Priyamani must be really enthralled as she gets ‘double-treat’: Casted in Ram Gopal Varma and pairing with Suriya.

Ram Gopal Varma has already started shooting for the film ‘Raktha Charitra’ with Vivek Oberoi as the first part involves much of his prominence while Suriya will steal the show from latter part.
